This was once the view from my workplace:
This is now the view from my workplace:
Coming back to Baltimore was a sensible choice and editing science could be rewarding. Someday. Today I am editing a grant about the capacity for Env to differentiate naïve CD4 T cells into the T follicular helper phenotype. I must be sort of tired or something because my eyes keep crossing.
I work with an international group of people like I did in London, although I suppose now it’s just mostly old Chinese men and one old Russian guy.
Oh…and I guess there’s this one guy from Wisconsin named Glen who stares at me in the elevator. He has a bowl cut.
They may not give me credit for the things I do here, but it’s only a 12 minute drive from my house. Sometimes 14 minutes. Speaking of, I’m looking forward to getting home tonight because I’m having couscous again for dinner. Neat.

Sounds like my kinda gig – I was also a science editor in part, and it was a nice, if predictable seven years. Also, bowl cut? That’s hot. Just saying.
Down with bowl cuts? I could give him your number. I assume all that staring means he’s single. And yes, it’s a very predictable job, indeed.
I hate couscous.
It is a sensible meal option.
You should have porridge.
What is porridge, anyway?
It’s a sensible meal choice from Victorian England.
Well, I for one find your talk of “naïve CD4 T cells into the T follicular helper” cells scintillating. And I wish I were kidding.
This seems to be backfiring….
In my case, yes.
You’re not alone, Carrie. I like it too.
Yeah, we are kind of weird.
A 12-14 minute drive to work would be crazy for me. I can get to work in 2-4 minutes, depending on how many people are at THE stop light. Who’s the single, boring white girl now?
All hail Jon, the single most boring white girl!
Love couscous too.
Ps. Shame you’re not in London anymore, would love to hang out!
Aw man! That would be so fun!
Lots of room in our spare bedroom
(ahh who am I kidding, it’s a tiny room – it’s LONDON – but we’ll manage if you ever wanna come visit
)
I may just take you up on that…
Yay!
Couscous is one of my favorites too! I envy your job of editing science stuff, coz I actually do the mundane lab research I nowhere helped design! Someday, I’ll get into the scientific writing field too!
You can have my job if you want it!
Love the graveyard view. I got the London one one but yrs looks more interesting. Any good Angel statues there? Might sound odd but i always visit the cemetery if I’m sightseeing for finding the most amazing angel statues…
You can only visit that cemetery once a year, not really sure why. I get to see it every day….
My daughter-in-law was just published in The Journal of Bacteriology. Her paper, Identification and Characterization of the Functional Toxboxes in the Vibrio cholerae Cholera Toxin Promoter was fun reading. ;-P
Now that sounds riveting!
Couldn’t put it down. A page turner!
Mmm, couscous. I wouldn’t mind having a graveyard as a view, actually. I find them strangely tranquil.
You all are nuts. Luckily, I am okay with that fact.
Dear La La,
I spit out some Diet Coke at the vast difference between your past and present workplace views.
Your trouble is you’ve been places. Cool enough to know UNCOOLNESS. See, if you’ve just lived in two states for your whole lifetime, you have no idea what you are missing. For me, it’s been Iowa, and then the Huge lifestyle change to SOUTH DAKOTA.
You want to talk about boring little Missy?
Couscous is downright WILD here babydoll.
Count your blessings.
Love, Lis lis
p.S. I can’t seem to stop myself.
xoxoox
Good point…sometimes knowledge can make things painful. South Dakota, wow, I am not jealous!
Yes, well, it has its advantages. Good place to raise kids and all that.
Not a lot of danger around these parts unless you count deer on the highway.
Well, yes, deer can get crazy!
We need to find you a more exciting job.
Right! One that isn’t near here.
You take advantage of that bowl cut. The hair screams done-in-30-seconds, but I am sure he will hula hoop with you after. I have never had couscous
That’s cray. It’s a bland delight.
I’m late to the party here, but it seems like everyone loves the boring life! What is going on?
Guess I’ll stay in Baltimore, never say bad words, never get married and clean up rat poop until my dying day.
Nooooooo!
I miss La La
She misses you, too!
I didn’t have a view from my office in London because there were no windows. It smelled like Indian food…now I have a view of Donkey Creek…and it smells like cafeteria food…and I am having cous cous for dinner tonight too. I think I am the same boring white girl only I am in Wyoming
Oh Kristin. What are our lives coming to?
I like couscous. See, I have something in common with Lauren. I not much for science though. It was always my weakest area. I have to say, I prefer your London view.
It was a fine view indeed, my friend!
I like both of your views. Of course I still miss London desperately so I’d prefer the view of your office there, but I would dig having an office that overlooked a cemetery. Is that the cemetery where Edgar is?
No that is around the corner. I believe there are a couple of politicians buried in this cemetery. I don’t like seeing it everyday. It’s just a reminder….”you shall dislike your days until you end up in a cemetery less awesome than this one….”
Yeah, I guess I can see that. Plus, there are probably days when work is so shitty that you look at them and think, “Lucky bastards!” Or something.
I read your post earlier today while I sat in my truck and waited for my mother to come out of the grocery store. I commiserated with you for a few moments. I longed for London, even though I’ve never been. I longed for couscous, even though I’ve never had any, and I was too lazy to drag my butt out of the truck and go into the grocery store and buy some to try.
Wisconsin is a great word! Bowl Cut? Marry Him.
Bring LaLa back. Just sayin.
you’re doing your best to make these as boring as hell – I can tell.
It’s not working…
I have noticed…..
we could try faking it if you like – saying how crap and boring it is and bring back La La and all that kind of stuff if it helps you win the battle? But the truth is that Lauren is pretty cool too
La La,
You served tea and there was a party here… Perhaps Earl Grey tomorrow?
Le Clown
Perhaps. Though I rarely stray from Lady Grey.
La La,
I will bring the skons.
Le Clown
Though you might think this is boring, it’s nice to learn a little more about you. Now I’m curious how you ended up in London at one time.
I’m just grateful you are not one of those folks who holds her breath whenever they’re in sight of a cemetery. That would not end well. And couscous is awesome, except when you have little kids. It is the most annoying food ever to clean up. Our basset hound is defective, and totally unable to clean the floor.
Okay, after that comment, we all know YOU are not the most boring person here…
Hahaha, I love your dog. I can see kids being a couscous obstacle!
You have neglected to mention that that is Edgar Allan Poe’s graveyard. Give the graveyard some credit!
More beuatiful shots!
Sorry, I think I had “premature posting syndrome” for a moment there….
Haha you’re hilarious.
