Hi! I’m Lauren from Baltimore. A few years ago I bought a house in Charm City as part of my “independent woman” effort and quickly learned that Baltimore is hardly a charming place to live. Luckily, my experiences have provided plenty of unique, entertaining tales to share. And thoughts. And possibly some poetry, too.
Thank you so much for stopping by!
Smart writing. Hate you a little. In a good way.

Bmore in the house! I was combing through Weebles’ birthday wishes, watched your vid, checked out your blog, and voila…in this big old blogosphere, we are neighbors. I used to live in Federal Hill, playing kickball for Mothers’ and barhopping like it was my job about 10 years ago. Since then, I have moved up to the county, as so many of us do who want to raise children without fear of getting mugged or shot. Just wanted to say a neighborly hey hon. ps. how ’bout those motherfucking ravens baby!

I bet there’s something wonderfully sinister behind that smirk.

I was actually just smiling…unless by “wonderfully sinister” you mean that you somehow know I ate an entire box of Thin Mints in 2 days or that I sing Lou Bega’s Mambo No. 5 and change all the names in it to my own. Then yes, wonderfully sinister. Absolutely.
Also, a little less sinister of a subject, I like your gravatar. I love Tennyson’s “The Lady of Shalott” and the Waterhouse painting is my favorite. I’ve always found her expression, the fallen leaf, the gray sky and forest in contrast to the tapestry particularly spellbinding.
LikeLike
It invokes a certain feeling of remorse, regret, longing, loss, realization, and woeful acceptance. Spellbinding is perfect description, I would agree. It has always been my favorite but I won’t hang it up. Too powerful for everyday contemplation, but I can stare into it for hours on end. It’s lovely that way.

Your ability to put a positive, funny spin on otherwise harrowing situations is admirable. This does not go unnoticed. You were offended a number of years ago by my comment that you are injured and your eyes are a lot of noise to keep people away from your vulnerability and depth. Your eyes are the Wizard of Oz to the woman behind the curtain.
Unquestionably, there is also steadfastness in your eyes. You remain ever entertaining and ever beautiful as a vulnerable, indestructible force of heart and humor. Your eyes show this. You are a one woman battalion. Stay this way. You are rare. I do not know another like you and I speak on behalf of many when I tell you to keep believing and keep writing.

Derek. Question. Did my words have anything to do with this? If not, I suppose I should tell my eyes to stop being so chatty.

Lauren, I prefer your eyes when they are not hiding. Your words are important, too. More often you should allow your soul to spread open and poetically spill. I know you. Your poetic language is as breathtaking as your beauty.

Derek, let me try spilling for you right now in a game called “what am I?” where you guess what I’m writing about. Ready?:
