It sneaks in, pouring like warm honey
through the cracks of
my window shade.
The city streets stretch–
and slowly liven as
icy dew forms
upon my soul,
for I too must rise
and shine for another day of
absolute horseshit at literally the most
Mundane.
Job.
Ever.
Fine, sunrise,
you relentless nag.
I’m up,
but I swear I’ll quit today
if that bubbly,
know-it-all bitch, Denise,
doesn’t stop squawking about her wedding.
Now that’s poetry I can relate to!
Many a sunrise has been ruined by leading into a workday.

That’s the spirit! Up and at’em kiddo. (And if she keeps on and on, whip out that creditcard and send yourself some ridiculous amount of flowers from a secret admirer. That oughta change the subject.)

Dude. You killed it with that. I thought it was going to be all deep and shit. But no. Just no. Loved it. I don’t know Denise but I hate her now. Have a good day at work!

Beautiful, poetic words, La La. Great mix of sorrow and the beauty of a sunrise.

The iambic pacing is wonderful, thoughtful and sticks it up Denise’s bottom!

Thank you. Someone else commented and said it was sorrowful–so I’m glad you understood what was happening there.

WELL it’s a sunset rustic barn wedding, something about pictures in a cornfield, blah blah blah that’s usually when I zone out.

Thanks, Amy! If I was having a wedding I’d probably do it too, just not as loudly and boastfully.

That’s a great shift in tone from the sleepy, velvety description at the beginning to the griping at the end. π I love it.

Ha! What do you think if a did a book of poems like this?

I’d be okay with that, though I always like to read things that are mixed up a bit too. I like your romantic poems, too. Mixing it up, for me, tends to increase the impact of a change in style.
