The Female Reaction to Magic Mike

2 Jul

You can leave your hat on.

One week ago, I turned on a TV for the first time in two months and saw a preview for “Magic Mike.” At first I thought it was a joke, and then I thought it was a dream, and then I realized no…no, this is real and women all over the earth must be going out of their minds about it.

I’m going to see it tomorrow with two of my friends. However, after reading Rachelle’s post on A Rich, Full Life In Spite of It, it made me question the reason women are going to see it.

I hope that the ladies choosing to see this movie aren’t doing so as a means of retaliation against menfolk for going to strip clubs and watching porn. If a guy is mad because you’re going to see the movie, then I guess he “has to deal with it” the way women are told “to deal with it,” but it seems rather juvenile to rub it in his face, no? Instead, I hope women will take this opportunity to be in the spectator role that we rarely experience in such a way–whether it be in movies or real life. Besides the fact that Channing Tatum is a hunk, the movie provides a change from the usual cinematic divide between men and women and I guess we should give three cheers for having the option to watch 5 dudes gyrate and take off their clothes to “It’s Raining Men.” It’s a nice option to have.

I have only one question, and it might be my lack of a man talking, but why is “Magic Mike” not being shown in 3D?

A better question is why isn’t in in Smell-O-Vision? You know those guys are lathered in musk.

This is not a Disney World 3D experience. Wait a minute…I think we’re on to something…

Hahahaha, Magic Mike in 3D. That would be something.

I’m not seeing it only because none of the guys in the movie does anything for me. I am all in favor of a good show of beefcake but Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaghey, et al are just not sexy to me (sorry).

I read somewhere that if men were smart, they’d line up outside the theater, because when the women leave the movie “Magic Mike,” they will be all hot and bothered, thereby exponentially increasing the lonely man’s chance of hooking up. In fact, he should probably bring a few beers as well. And maybe some chocolate…

That would kind of suggest women weren’t smart either if they were willing to hook up with the first man they saw outside of the cinema.

Agreed. And then some. I believe this statement came from a man, right after he pointed out that he also waited outside male strip clubs for the same reason…

If the women are that wild coming out of there..perhaps it’s what they are looking for anyway. To each her own, I guess.

Why indeed! I hope no one sees it out of revenge or to be petty either–these are some beautiful men and it is a nice option to have. I had to ask myself the questions though so I can order it with a clean conscience when it hits On Demand 🙂

I hope your enthusiasm isn’t crushed by the plot. Many thought the movie “Showgirls” was a dream come true, until viewing it, when most realized it was a nightmare.

I have a feeling Channing Tatum will realize he wants something more from life or something. I’m ready.

Hey, who cares if someone is seeing this for the wrong reason? The question is, are you seeing it for the right one? And, well, you sure are!

That said, I’m not seeing it for the right reason.

    So it’s all good.

This has been a big dilemma in my life as of lately. Along the same lines as 50 shades of grey. I am not sure if I should read it/see Magic Mike or if that will just be unnecessary emotional cutting.

I’m going to see it, and it’s because the movie is filled with lots of “philosophical debates” that I want to mull…er…fantasize over.

I thought this was a documentary about Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson. Imagine my surprise when my wife not only suggested we go see it but had already bought tickets. Then imagine the bigger surprise.
