La La Versus Lauren

8 Oct

I have written as La La for over a year. It’s fun. Not including those close to me, approximately 600 of you followed this blog for some reason or another (a kiss on each of your cheeks).

Recently, I was told to be more sensible and change the content of this blog. I would like to remind anyone with concerns, that 600+ readers aren’t here to read about another boring, single, twentysomething white girl named Lauren who can’t afford cable and hates her dull job.

La La is a silly, flirty, smart, observant, independent young woman who jokes around with everyone and happens to have bright rays of love and hopefulness flying out of her somewhat clumsy butt. People from all over the world have fallen for her (even a couple of ladies) and I have received many kind emails with flattering feedback.

Maybe I am La La, or perhaps I am nothing like her. Maybe I am both people. It’s even possible that I was once one person and now I am the other. Regardless, which girl would you prefer to read about?:

1. On Saturday night, Lauren ate a veggie dog on a whole wheat bun and fell asleep on the couch around 10 pm.

2. On Saturday night, La La went out with her friends, took five shots of tequila and woke up on the kitchen floor with some guy’s number written in lipstick on her arm. She vaguely remembers his gorgeous smile. Should she call him?

Who grabs you? Does it matter which scenario is a true story?

If you believe I should change La La, then you’re missing the humor and hope of this blog. Normally I would say viva la La La (or something) and write whatever I want,

but instead I will send La La on vacation through Friday and give you a “thrilling” peek at some of Lauren’s trials and tribulations.

Pleased to meet you Lauren. Hope you stick around for more than a week.

    • Lauren at 12:59 pm #

      I’m pretty predictable, so…

  2. Maggie O'C at 12:57 pm #

Whatevs. I followed LaLa because of Dear Vodka. Lauren, I can just email and ask how it’s going.

  3. The Laundry Wench at 1:09 pm #

La La. All the way. Alter ego or not, she is who she is – no apologies, no explanations. It’s the raw honesty people dig – yes, dig. If you want to start a “Dear Diary, It’s me, Lauren,” blog, do it to it. But don’t taint La La’s space.

    • Lauren at 1:20 pm #

I will be sure to mention this to La La (thank you, you absolutely rock!).

  4. Carrie Rubin at 1:26 pm #

I would read about either girl, as long as it came with your signature wit and outlook. La La is appealing to a diverse group of people. That’s hard to do, so kudos to La La, whoever she may be. 🙂

  5. Kyle at 1:35 pm #

you are both wonderful – fancy a threesome?

    • workspousestory at 1:39 pm #

      May I watch?

      • Kyle at 1:40 pm #

why not join in? that’s if la la and lauren are up for it

        • workspousestory at 1:42 pm #

I’ll leave that up to Lalauren (will this catch on?) but I’m game. x

    • Lauren at 1:41 pm #

I will have to ask La La what that means. Thank you for the invitation.

  6. workspousestory at 1:39 pm #

    Ooh… exciting… I don’t know?! Both?!
Pleased to meet you Lauren. x

    • Lauren at 1:43 pm #

I have on red shoes, too. Mine are sensible flats.

      • workspousestory at 1:45 pm #

        They’re red. That’s enough 😉

  7. Maddie Cochere at 1:53 pm #

You are both! I know this because you replied to one of my posts on a Saturday night. I was surprised to see you as I assumed you were out dancing. 🙂 But if we are voting, I vote La La. 🙂

    • Lauren at 3:04 pm #

I think you just gave me away 😉

      • Maddie Cochere at 3:16 pm #

Now I remember! You were sick with a bad cold that day and didn’t want to spread your germs around the dance floor.

I love La La, because there’s a certain honesty to her. She does’t embellish (or she does a good job covering it up), and isn’t ashamed of sharing her silliness or quirks. Writing is best when written with a clean mind. I wouldn’t want that to change, ever!

    • Lauren at 3:05 pm #

Wow, thanks. Maybe whoever writes this blog won’t be boring this week after all.

  9. Elliot at 3:37 pm #

Stick with what you enjoy doing, and if people enjoy reading it, then all the better.

I will follow you for some good annecdotes of being a twenty-something Lauren or La La!
And truth be told… I’m a twenty-something white girl named Lauren who has too much imagination to work in a windowless cubicle for most of my life too. We’re practically a looking glass of Lauren’s.

    • La La at 2:28 pm #

We truly are! I love it. I like to see other Lauren’s branching out!

  11. The Bumble Files at 7:26 pm #

Well hello, La La or shall I call you Lauren? I love La La, but I’m sure I would enjoy meeting Lauren. It’s an interesting predicament. I think you should write what interests you. Truly, that’s what I think.

    • La La at 2:29 pm #

It seems like the best way for anyone to go about things!

      • The Bumble Files at 2:32 pm #

Yes, La La. I think you’re not the only who is conflicted about this. I think it’s an interesting question you pose. I’m definitely to see how Lauren thinks and differs from La La. Good luck in your exploration.

  12. mikeakin1 at 7:32 pm #

I want a combo of both!!

  13. Madame Weebles at 9:02 pm #

I vote for La La so I can live vicariously through her. But I love you both.

  14. calahan at 10:23 pm #

Purge both names and start fresh. You are now Larry.

    • La La at 10:35 pm #

As always, I shall take your grade A advice

  15. RFL at 10:05 am #

I find both quite entertaining! I think it’s fine to write from the perspective you are feeling day to day. If you feel like writing something fun and full of tequila, do it. And if you stay home and eat a veggie dog on Saturday night, that’s honest and endearing too.

    • La La at 10:11 am #

Well thank you for the feedback, I know sometimes I push the envelope, but, it’s just writing. 🙂

  16. becca3416 at 12:36 pm #

La La… Lauren… I don’t care if you tell me your name is really Myrtle and you are 75 years old. Just keep giving me stuff to read.

    • La La at 2:30 pm #

How did you know that was my real name? You clever shrew.

  17. kenthinksaloud at 1:49 pm #

La La, Lauren…it’s all good. I get the feeling you can’t help but be interesting whatever persona you choose to present. I’m jealous of your number of followers though!

    • La La at 2:27 pm #

Thank you Ken. You should find the things Lauren says boring so my parents will understand that my La La side is actually me, and the Lauren side is a bit common.

  18. Lori DiNardi at 11:11 am #

I think La La is hilarious and enjoy reading about her “somewhat clumsy” life. But, if you’re truly asking … I mean, really want to know … I wouldn’t change a thing, but might add a little of what La La or Lauren is feeling on any given day. But, that’s just me … an emotional kinda girl. It’s not necessary to appeal to me, or even to 600. Being your genuine- self is what got you those 600-plus followers in the first place. Blessings to you La La/Lauren.

    • La La at 11:49 am #

You are so thoughtful. Thank you, Lori. xoxo

  19. gypsy116 at 2:56 pm #

I definitely have a bit of a crush on La La, so you add me to that list of ladies, but Id guess that Id probably have a thing for Lauren too. I love this blog, its incredibly funny and charming. Write what you want and/or what makes you happy darling.

    • La La at 3:12 pm #

Aw you are awesome! Thank you! This made my day. xoxo

      • gypsy116 at 3:21 pm #

        Welcome dear 🙂

    I like LaLauren. You’re cute. You’re funny.
